Visual Arts Workshop

Art as Energy, with Linda Celestian

The workshop is designed to help participants explore and build upon their personal goals for self-expression. Working with painting, printmaking and collage techniques you will explore line, shape, form, space, color and texture in regards to communicating in a visual language. Participants will walk away having learned new techniques and a new way of approaching their own work.

Supplies: I will be bringing inexpensive bulk supplies for our planned activities, so those who wish can simply pay a materials fee of $15 per person and save your good materials for serious application. This will cover the paper, acrylic paint and the painting tools. However, participants may want to bring their own supplies for the last day to apply what they've learned in their chosen medium.

I’m interested in depicting the energy and life force of natural elements to elicit an emotional response. This desire has led me to explore and invent many techniques to apply and manipulate the mediums I use. I’m pouring and splattering, in the case of oil paints and inks, or melting layer upon layer of wax then heating it to let the under layer bubble up, in the case of encaustics. I feel akin to nature by making art in the same way the earth came to be, and continues to evolve. Volcanoes erupt and pour molten lava down the mountains to form new land masses and glaciers melt to feed bodies of water.

Everything in nature is constantly changing and I try to depict this in my work.
